Computer Group Meetings
Hi
everyone, Dave Clark here with some news about our 2008/9
Computer Group meetings. The aim of the meetings is to
inform you how you can maintain your computer so that it runs
quickly and safely, as well as trying to answer all your
questions. If I get stuck with a Vista problem, I’m sure
Bill Roach will help out and provide backup for me throughout
the meetings. If there are any Mac computer users, please
don’t be afraid to come. They are much simpler to
operate than Windows computers!
I would like
to hear from you in advance if there are any topics that you
would particularly like me to address. All the meetings
will be fun if everyone participates and learns a little each
time.
You can
contact me at this e-mail address:

The meeting
dates are as follows:

On Sept. 7th, 2008 we
had over 60 people gather in the upper club house for an old
fashion ice cream social. Paul and I spent about 3 weeks
deciding what kinds to make and making 6 gallons. We had 2
vanilla, l cherry vanilla, 1 chocolate, 1 fresh peach and 1
fresh strawberry. Linda Tarpley made a wonderful chocolate sauce
topping and of course we had other toppings. . We had such a
great time and none of use gained an ounce! Believe it or
not, we had very little left over, of which Paul and I were
thankful. Such a nice evening together.

DINNER/SHOW
This was a spur of the moment
thought to have this dinner/show. We sold 59 tickets. I was so
pleased at the attendance. We had a wonderful show after dinner.
Six of Carefree's finest men
volunteered to participate in a fashion show. Barb Peach, Mary
Wedig and I dressed them in Ladies clothing. They were
escorted by Lew DeLong thru the audience. The audience then were
given ballots to vote for the "Queen of Carefree"
with the winner being Chris Arthur. Those
participating were Al Peach, Dave Peach, Dick Badgley Chris
Arthur, George Masica, and Leif Pettersen. Everyone had
such a wonderful time.
Barb, Mary and I really

CAREFREE/MICHIGAN OUTING AUG
08
The day after our Carefree
Michigan golf outing a group of four Carefree couples consisting
of myself and Mary, Charlie Grisdale, Louise Vitelli of 10th
street Howie and Carol Houghton of Higgins Lake Michigan lot # 472
and Fred and Katie Ducham of Midland, Michigan lot # 769 took off
for a trip in Michigan's upper peninsulla
for a sight seeing tour. Our first stop after crossing the
magnificiant Mackinaw bridge was at St. Ignas State park and
enjoyed some fun at the kewadin casino. From there we went to
Munising and took a boat tour of
national treasure Pictured Rocks on lake superior and an 18 hole
round of golf at the Pictured rocks country club. We made a stop
at Ispeming to visit the Youpers tourist trap for some fun as you
will see. Then off to L'anse to make good our invitation to visit
Ray and Jeanie Sikarski Carefree lot #728.
They were most gracious hosts and treated us all to a great
Trout dinner caught and prepared by Ray with Jeanie putting on the
finishing touches with their fresh grown potatoes and other
delicious treats. You will notice in the group picture in the
background a woodworking mill that Henry Ford
started for production of his wooden frame for the original model
tee's.
Their father worked there. Ray and Jeanie pose at the front
door of their beautiful new home located right on Lake Superior in
one of the pictures.
After spending some time at Objibwa casino for a little
gambling we took off
for Copper Harbor which is Michigan's most northern town what a
beautiful
drive it was on the way back we stopped to visit Delaware copper
mine. After
leaving there we traveled to Taquaminin falls another beautiful
sight then
on to Sault Ste Marie and the Soo locks where they raise or lower
the water
levels so the ships can pass thru from Lake Superior to Lake Huron
and vise
versa. We stayed at another Indian casino called Bay Mills and
Played the
most magnificent golf course you could imagine overlooking lake
Superior
with huge hills and it was beautifully manicured. We then went to
Mackinaw
Island where you have to go by boat. They do not allow automobiles
on the
Island only travel by bicycles, horses and walking. It's a most
popular
attraction and destination and a must see if your traveling in
Michigan then
it was off to the Famous National Park Sleeping Bear Dunes to see
the huge
sand dunes and great views of lake Michigan. You will see Charlie climbing
the dunes which is very difficult to climb. Then back to Howie and
Carol
Houghtons. You will probably notice Fred and Katie missing from
the last
pictures as they had left for home. Their Daughter Dee Dee had
just passed
away. We were all so sorry to hear of her passing.

There are two items of
interest to Carefree residents in today's Ledger:
Albertson's is to close its Winter Haven store by the end of
August, bringing an end to the company's 30 yeard history in
Polk County.
Albertson's sold the 49
Florida stores to Publix.
And
I quote from the July 31 Ledger: J.C. Penney
will hold a grand opening Friday for its new 104,000 square
foot store at Posner Park. The store includes a beauty
boutique, portrait studio, salon and home decorating
service. Pets Mart also opened a new store this
week at the 80 acre Posner development, at Interstate 4 and
U.S. 27. Posner officials said clothing retailer Ross
and Dick's Sporting Goods will open locations at the site
later this summer or early fall. Target, Best Buy and
Staples are among the retailers already operating at the
$500 million shopping center.
Editors
note - Michael's, Books a Million, Belk are also open.

New trees have been planted at
Carefree - two yellow tababilias, two pink tababillias, and
a purple flowering tree. All of these trees should blossom
while the Snowbirds are present in February or March. You
will find the two yellow tababilias near the front gate by the new
palms, one pink tababillia in front of the clubhouse in the circle
and the other pink one between # 8 and #9 golf holes. The
purple flowering tree is also in front of the clubhouse but
slightly to the left. A big thank you is owed to Bob Strejc
for his research and planting and also to Chuck
Radloff, Diana
Strejc, Linda and Jim Tarpley and Sue Aber for there assistance in
the planting. These trees were donated through monies
contributed by varioius Carefree people. Let's keep Carefree
green.
